Background remover

Cut out a person or a product from a photo. Keep it see-through, or put it on white or light blue for an ID-style photo. The AI runs on your device.

Low gives a crisp cut for products. Higher blends hair and soft edges.

Your photo never leaves your device: nothing is uploaded or saved. The first time, the page downloads the AI model (about 19 MB) from this site; your browser keeps a copy for next time.

Not an official photo check

This tool only changes the background. It does not check whether a photo meets official ID or passport rules, such as size, head position, lighting or how recent it is. Always follow the exact requirements of the authority you apply to.

Tips for a clean cut-out

Light and contrast

Even light and a background that differs from the subject help most: a dark shirt against a light wall, a white mug on a coloured cloth.

ID-style photos

Face the camera straight on, eyes open, neutral expression, nothing covering the face. UAE ID and passport photos ask for a white background: check the official rules before you submit.

Product photos

Use a low edge softness for hard edges, then download a see-through PNG to place on any background. Remove shadows the AI kept with the brush.

Sources: the AI model is U²-Net (small version, u2netp) by Qin and others, "U²-Net: Going deeper with nested U-structure for salient object detection", Pattern Recognition, 2020 (Apache-2.0 licence), in the ONNX format published by the open-source rembg project (MIT licence); it runs in your browser with ONNX Runtime Web (MIT licence). The model looks at the photo at 320 × 320 pixels and marks what stands out; the cut is then enlarged to your photo's size, which is why fine hair can need the brush. UAE photo requirements: the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) criteria for passport and Emirates ID photos, including a white background, as reported by Gulf News (updated 11 January 2023). This tool does not check those rules.
