Marriage grant for Emiratis

The federal government pays eligible Emirati couples a one-time grant of AED 70,000 (Cabinet Resolution No. 5 of 2017). It is meant for lower-income Emiratis. As reported in January 2026: both spouses UAE nationals, groom at least 21 and bride at least 18 at the contract, groom's net income no more than AED 25,000 a month, apply within six months of the marriage contract, and complete the pre-marriage courses. The grant is now handled by the Ministry of Family, and the criteria were under review: check with the authority before you count on it.

Limits on the mahr

Federal Law No. 21 of 1997 sets a ceiling on the dowry in Islamic marriage contracts: the advance dowry may not exceed AED 20,000 and the deferred dowry may not exceed AED 30,000 (as stated on the official government portal u.ae). For your own contract, check with the authority (the court's marriage contracts section).

The guest list moves the total most

Catering, invitations and favours grow with every guest. Try a smaller number above and watch the total: it is often the quickest saving.
