UAE speed limits and fines
Pick a road or type the posted limit, enter your speed, and see the fine, black points and impound. The sign is the limit: radar margins are not a right.
Fills in the limit from the list below. Limits change by stretch: the sign you pass always wins.
Only where a minimum speed is signed for your lane. Leave empty otherwise. All speeds in km/h.
Runs on your phone. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved.
Fines are counted from the posted limit. Abu Dhabi removed its 20 km/h radar buffer in August 2018, so radars there can flag you at 1 km/h over. Lists of Dubai radar settings have been published, but police can change them at any time. Electronic signs can lower the limit for fog, rain or roadworks, and that lower limit is the one that counts.
Limits on main roads
Only limits we could trace to an official announcement or an official list reported in the news, with dates. Many roads have different limits on different stretches.
Speeding fines and black points
Federal fines, applied by police in every emirate: Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 as amended. The new federal traffic law (Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024, in force since 29 March 2025) keeps this table in force until the Cabinet issues a new one; when we checked, no new table had been published. Some emirates add their own impound release fees or early-payment discounts.
School zones and school buses
Many school areas are signed at 40 km/h, and some in Dubai at 30 km/h. We could not find one official UAE-wide school-zone limit, so follow the sign and check with the authority if unsure.
Not stopping when a school bus opens its stop sign: AED 1,000 and 10 black points.
Driving below a signed minimum speed: AED 400. Abu Dhabi's 120 km/h minimum on the two left lanes of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311) ran from May 2023 and was lifted in April 2025.
