Internet speed check
How fast is your connection right now, and is it enough for a video call or HD streaming? Tap start and wait about 15 seconds.
The test sends random data between your device and Jarreb!'s own server and measures the time. Nothing about you or your results is saved. It uses up to about 85 MB on a very fast connection, much less on a slower one, so be careful on a limited mobile plan.
What the numbers mean
How fast things reach you: pages, videos, files. This is the number most internet plans advertise. Measured in megabits per second (Mbps). 8 megabits make one megabyte.
How fast you send: your face in a video call, photos you share, files you back up. Often much lower than download.
How long a tiny message takes to go to the server and back, in milliseconds (ms). Lower feels snappier in calls and games.
Wi-Fi distance and walls, other people streaming at home, an old phone or router, the time of day, and how far the test server is. For the truest number, test near the router, or with a cable, and repeat a few times.
Sources: speeds needed for each activity are the minimum download speeds in the US Federal Communications Commission's Broadband Speed Guide (fcc.gov): general browsing and email 1 Mbps, HD personal video call 1.5 Mbps, HD video streaming 5–8 Mbps, HD video conferencing 6 Mbps, online multiplayer gaming 4 Mbps, 4K video streaming 25 Mbps. It notes these are rough guides. A video call sends about as much as it receives, so this page applies the same numbers to upload. Ping guide: ITU-T Recommendation G.114 advises keeping one-way delay under 150 ms for conversation (a round-trip ping of about 300 ms). This test measures against Jarreb!'s own server only, not your provider's network or any other website, so results depend on your Wi-Fi, your device and where that server is. It is a rough check, not an official measurement of your internet plan.
