Can I swim today?
Pick a stretch of coast and see the sea right now: waves, wind and water temperature, turned into a simple flag.
Nothing you pick is saved. To show the sea, the page asks Open-Meteo, a free public weather service, for the forecast at a point just offshore (or at your location, if you choose "My location").
How the flag is decided
The worst of the three decides. These are our simple thresholds for an adult swimming near the shore, not an official standard. Wave height is the model's "significant wave height" a little offshore: some waves will be bigger.
If the lifeguard's flag on the beach is red, stay out, whatever this page says. The National Center of Meteorology issues sea warnings when it expects rough seas, and advises avoiding water sports and any activity at sea while they are in force.
Beach safety in the UAE
On Dubai's public beaches: red means swimming is not safe; yellow means swim with care and follow the lifeguards; purple means harmful sea life, such as jellyfish, has been seen.
Dubai Municipality asks people not to swim after sunset, except at beaches set aside for night swimming. Stay inside the swimming area and away from rocks.
The adult with a child is responsible for them. Stay within arm's reach of young children in the water, even when it looks calm.
If someone is in trouble in the water, alert the lifeguard and call 999. Throw something that floats; don't swim out unless you are trained.
Sources: Live data from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com): the Marine API (wave height, wave period and sea surface temperature, from global wave models such as Météo-France MFWAM, ECMWF WAM and NOAA GFS Wave, at about 8 to 25 km resolution) and the Forecast API (wind speed, gusts and daylight, from global weather models such as ECMWF, NOAA GFS and DWD ICON). Open-Meteo notes that accuracy close to the coast is limited. Beach flags and rules: Dubai Municipality's beach flag guidance (red: not safe to swim; yellow: swim with caution; purple: harmful marine life), as reported by Curly Tales (July 2026), and its open-beach instructions (no swimming after sunset, stay out at red flag, follow lifeguards, keep away from rocks, adults responsible for children), as reported by Gulf News. Sea warnings: National Center of Meteorology (NCM) advice to avoid water sports and sea activities during a sea warning, as reported by Gulf News. The swim/take care/stay out thresholds are Jarreb!'s own simple rules, set to match our beach page. Emergency: 999.
