How the times are worked out
Fajr starts when the sun is 18.2° below the eastern horizon before sunrise, and Isha when it is 18.2° below the western horizon after sunset: the angle used in the UAE.
Dhuhr follows the sun's highest point. Asr is when a shadow equals the object's length plus its noon shadow (the majority view). Maghrib is sunset. A few minutes are added for caution, as in the UAE timetable.
The sun reaches Fujairah first and Abu Dhabi last, so times in the east of the country are a few minutes earlier than in the west, even though the clock is the same (UTC+4).
The start of Ramadan is announced after the crescent moon is sighted, so the date shown here is an estimate from a calculated lunar calendar and can move by a day.
Sources: Sun position and hour-angle formulas from the U.S. Naval Observatory's approximate solar coordinates and the standard prayer-time method (the sun's hour angle at a given depth below the horizon). Parameters used for the UAE: Fajr 18.2°, Isha 18.2°, Asr with a shadow factor of 1 (Shafi'i), sunrise and sunset at 0.833° below the horizon, and safety adjustments of −3 minutes for sunrise, +3 for Dhuhr, +1 for Asr and +3 for Maghrib, time zone UTC+4 with no daylight saving. The angles and most adjustments are those commonly published for the UAE method of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat; the Asr adjustment was set by checking published UAE timetables for Dubai (February, March and October 2026), where results matched to within one minute. Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to start on Monday 8 February 2027, according to astronomers' forecasts reported in UAE media (Emirates Astronomical Society), which matches the calculated Umm al-Qura calendar used here; the actual date depends on the moon sighting. Times are calculated and may differ by a minute or two: for official prayer times, check the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat (awqaf.gov.ae).
