Pick your emirate to see the official fees for a driving licence and a car. Tick items to add them up. Where we could not confirm a fee, we say so.

Runs on your phone. Nothing is uploaded or saved. Fees change: check with the authority before you pay.

All emirates side by side

Federal fees, set by Cabinet Resolution No. 30 of 2017, apply in every emirate; each emirate may add its own service charges. "Check" means we could not confirm the local amount from an official or reputable source. Scroll the table sideways on a phone.

Good to know

New cars skip the test

In Dubai, a new private car bought from a local authorised dealer can be renewed for its first 3 years without a technical inspection, as long as it keeps the same owner. Any change of owner needs a test.

Your age sets the licence

Under 21, the licence is valid for 1 year and costs AED 100; from 21 it costs AED 300 (federal fees). Residents of 21 and over renew for 5 years, citizens and GCC nationals for 10.

The hidden costs

Fees to the authority are only part of the bill. Driving school lessons, the eye test, insurance and number plates come on top. The car cost calculator adds up a year of owning a car.

Unpaid fines block renewal

Traffic fines usually have to be settled before you can renew a registration or licence. See traffic fines and black points.
