Good to know

MOCCAE is the authority

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment issues the import permit for cats and dogs and the health certificate for taking them out. Apply only on its official site, moccae.gov.ae, or its official app. Call centre: 800 3050.

Low risk or high risk?

MOCCAE keeps its own list of countries with a low rabies risk. Pets from countries not on it need a rabies antibody (titre) blood test. The list is not the same as other countries' lists, so check it on the permit page.

Heat and flat-faced breeds

Many carriers do not fly snub-nosed cats and dogs, or any pets in the hold, in the hottest months. Ask early if you travel between May and September.

After you arrive

Ownership rules are set by each emirate: register or licence your pet with your local municipality, and keep its vaccinations up to date.
