Images are only made smaller, never bigger, and keep their shape. Leave a box empty for no limit.

Save as

80

Around 75 to 85 looks the same as the original on a phone screen and saves the most.

Everything happens on your device. Your images are not uploaded or saved anywhere.

Your smaller images

    A bonus: hidden details removed

Phone photos can carry hidden details (EXIF), such as the exact place they were taken and the phone model. The copies made here are new files without them. The picture itself can still show where you are. See what a photo gives away

    Which format?

    JPEG

Best for photos. Every phone, computer and form accepts it. It has no see-through parts: those turn white.

    WebP

Usually smaller than JPEG at the same quality, and keeps see-through parts. Some older apps and forms do not accept it.

    PNG

Keeps every pixel exactly, which suits screenshots, logos and drawings. For photos it is often much bigger.

    Forms with a size limit

If a form says the file must be under 1 MB or so, try 1920 or 1280 with quality 80. For a passport-style photo, check the exact size the form asks for.

Sources: WHATWG HTML Living Standard, the canvas element and toBlob() (images are drawn to a canvas and encoded again as a new file); CIPA DC-008, the Exif standard, which defines the GPS location and camera tags stored in photos. We checked that a test photo with location and camera tags comes out of this tool with none of them. Phones and browsers turn the picture the right way up before it is saved. Results depend on your browser: if it cannot make WebP, you get PNG and the page says so. Some formats, such as HEIC from some phones, may not open in every browser.
