Grade points table (edit to match your university)

Scales differ between universities: some use A−, B+ and B− steps, others use half steps like B+ = 3.5 and no minus grades. Check your university's catalogue or student handbook and change the points here.

How it is worked out

Term GPA

Each course gives grade points × credit hours. Add them up and divide by the total credit hours. A 4-credit course moves your GPA more than a 2-credit one.

Cumulative GPA

Old GPA × old credits, plus this term's points, divided by all the credits together. The more credits you already have, the slower your cumulative GPA moves.

What you need next

Needed semester GPA = (goal × all credits after next semester − points you already have) ÷ next semester's credits. If that is above 4.00, one semester can't get you there.

What may not count

Pass/fail courses, withdrawals, transfer credits and repeated courses are often handled differently. Many universities replace the old grade when you repeat a course. Leave out what your university leaves out.

Scales differ

There is no single UAE scale. Universities set their own letter grades and points, and schools use different curricula and weightings. This tool is a guide: your official GPA is the one on your transcript.

Sources: the GPA method (grade points × credit hours ÷ total credit hours) is the standard one in university catalogues. Percentage scales as published by UAE universities: Zayed University, “Grading in the Undergraduate Program” (ACA-PRO-203, v5.1, 23 Feb 2024): A 90–100 = 4.0, A− 87–89 = 3.7, B+ 84–86 = 3.3, B 80–83 = 3.0, B− 77–79 = 2.7, C+ 74–76 = 2.3, C 70–73 = 2.0, C− 67–69 = 1.7, D+ 64–66 = 1.3, D 60–63 = 1.0, F below 60. Abu Dhabi University, Undergraduate Catalog 2024–25: A 90–100 = 4.0, B+ 85–89 = 3.5, B 80–84 = 3.0, C+ 75–79 = 2.5, C 70–74 = 2.0, D+ 65–69 = 1.5, D 60–64 = 1.0, F below 60. United Arab Emirates University, College of Graduate Studies catalogue: A 90–100 = 4.0 down to C 70–73 = 2.0, F below 70. School percentages: Western Kentucky University, “Admission Requirements for Students Educated in United Arab Emirates” (UAE 90–100 = A, 80–89 = B, 70–79 = C, 60–69 = D, 0–59 = F; a 75% average treated as a 2.50 GPA), and College Board BigFuture, “How to convert your GPA to a 4.0 scale” (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, as a general guide). We found no single Ministry of Education table that turns a UAE school percentage into a 4.0 GPA: universities convert it their own way. Scales, rounding and the courses that count differ: always check your own institution's catalogue or student handbook, or ask the registrar.
